The technical school tuition for the dekalis Technical Institute of Kenya, which is located in the capital, Nairobi, is going up from 8,000 to 15,000 per year.
The university is the third largest in Kenya, after Nairoba University and the University of Nairovia.
The cost of tuition for a technical degree is Rs 1,400.
The government has launched a competition for people interested in joining the university to help pay for the higher tuition.
In a statement, the Ministry of Education said the government will give a 10 per cent discount on tuition to students applying after July 30.
The technical school’s director general, Kibar Aboom, said the tuition hike will help to cover the increase in the amount of university students who can attend the school.
“If the students want to study engineering or engineering technology, they can apply to the school now,” Aboam said.
The University of East Africa (UEA) also has a technical school.
However, the institute has more than 500 students in the city and only one is a qualified engineer.
