The flooding has forced more than 400,000 North Carolina residents to evacuate their homes and forced more 1.5 million to be rescued from their cars.CNN affiliate WKMG reports that the storm has dumped up to 7 feet of rain on the state, causing major flooding.

More than half of the state has received rain so far, and the National Weather Service says the storm is forecast to bring up to six inches of rain over parts of the Carolinas coast and up to 11 inches in the Carolinian cities of Charlotte and Durham.
